A Tradition's Evolution: Is Darwin Kosher?

By EVAN R. GOLDSTEIN

...Prof. Feit says that in nearly a quarter-century of teaching introductory biology, he has always taught evolution -- supported by traditional Jewish source material -- and that "there has never been a blip on the radar here." His assessment echoes the official line of the Modern Orthodox rabbinical association, which states that evolution is entirely consistent with Judaism.

Kabbalistic Cosmology
and its parallels in the
‘Big-Bang' of Modern Physics

In earlier articles I have tried to point out the links between hermetic and alchemical ideas and the developing current of thought in modern physics and cosmology. In this present piece I would like to pursue the strange parallels between the late 16th century reformation of kabbalistic cosmology that arose through the insights of Isaac Luria, and the recent reformulation of the ‘big-bang' into the so-called ‘inflationary model' of cosmic creation. Although the formulation of these two cosmologies was separated by some 400 years, we can recognise that they addressed the same problem, that of the emanation of the cosmos out of nothing.

Re: Darwinism

....In an interview with one of the major Israeli newspapers, one of them, Professor Eilam Gross of the Weizmann Institute of Science, described the "Big Bang" theory in terms amazingly consistent with the story of the Creation in the Torah and Kabbalah literature.

"The origin of the universe at a single point"

According to the Kabbalah of Ha'ari, the emergence of the worlds began at a single point that occurred after the first "contraction" of the "infinite light" that filled all space prior to the Creation. According to the Kabbalah, the beginning of the creation of the physical world was in the formation of the primal material, and immediately after its formation the dimension of time was created. The process continued with the formation of the different types of individual creatures, including the different materials of which they are composed and time allotted to each of them.

"The ancient light trapped within plasma"

As early as Rashi's commentary of Genesis, we find mention that the Creator hid the ancient light of the six days of the Creation. Since then, this light has been referred to in Kabbalah literature as "the hidden light" (or ganuz). The hidden light is revealed in the teachings of the Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism to those who learn it, and will be revealed to all humanity in the future.

"The universe spread out and cooled"

Kabbalah literature explains the interpretation of the name of the Creator,SH-D-I: she'amar le'olamo dai – He who told the world enough(!). According to Jewish-Kabbalah tradition about the creation of the world, in the beginning, the heavens stretched out infinitely, until the Creator told them "enough"(!) and stopped the spreading of the heavens and the entire universe – a process parallel to restriction, cooling and gelling.

Re: Darwinism

"According to the 13th c. mystic, Moses de Leon, "The beginning of existence is the secret concealed point. This is the beginning of all the hidden things, which spread out from there and emanate, according to their species. He said that, as emanation proceeds, as God begins to unfold, the point expands into a circle. Similarly, ever since the big bang, our universe has been expanding in all directions.

Physicists search for the symmetry hidden within the tangle of everyday reality. They want to find equations that link the forces of nature. Spiritual search, too, in its own way, charts a course through multiplicity toward oneness. If the big bang is our new creation myth, our new story that explains how the universe began, then who is God? "God" is a name we give to the oneness of it all.

Medieval philosophers - Jewish, Christian and Muslim - had taught that God Created the world "out of nothing." The mystics reinterpreted it to mean that the universe emanated from divine nothingness. To call God "Nothingness" does not mean that God does not exist. Rather it conveys the idea that God is no thing: God animates all things and cannot be contained by any of them.

This mystical nothingness is neither empty nor barren; it is fertile and overflowing, engendering the myriad forms of life. Similarly, cosmologists speak of the quantum vacuum, teeming with potential. This vacuum is anything but empty - a seething froth of virtual particles, constantly appearing and disappearing.

How did the universe emerge out of prolific nothingness? According to Kabbalah and big bang theory, this transition was marked by a single point. Recall the singularity: an infinitely dense point in spacetime. Like ayin [nothingness], a singularity is destructive and creative. Anything falling into a singularity merges with it and loses its identity, while energy emerging from a singularity can become anything."

eugenics

Post by zone on Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:42 pm

Tonight we talk to Rev. Clenard Childress, Jr. of BlackGenocide.org about the devastation that abortion has wrought in the African-American community, in which 52% of pregnancies now end in abortion. We examine the eugenics-inspired roots of the American Birth Control League and how that ideology has been carried over into the current day and age by the modern-day eugenicsts.

Why the British are free-thinking and the Chinese love conformity: It's all in the genes claim scientists

PUBLISHED: 08:55 GMT, 11 March 2012 | UPDATED: 07:55 GMT, 12 March 2012
Cultural stereotypes may be deep rooted in our genetic makeup, say scientists.

Common traits like British individualism and Chinese conformity could be attributed to genetic differences between races according to a new study.

The study, by the department of psychology at Northwestern University in Illinois, suggests that the individualism seen in western nations, and the higher levels of collectivism and family loyalty found in Asian cultures, are caused by differences in the prevalence of particular genes.

'We demonstrate for the first time a robust association between cultural values of individualism–collectivism and the serotonin transporter gene,' said Joan Chiao, from the department of psychology at Northwestern University.

Chiao and her colleagues combined data from global genetic surveys, looking at variations in the prevalence of various genes. The findings were matched with other research which ranked nations by levels of individualism and collectivism.

The team focused their attentions on the gene that controls levels of serotonin, a chemical in the brain which regulates mood and emotions.
Their studies found that one version of the gene was far more common in western populations which, they said, was associated with individualistic and free-thinking behaviour.

Another version of the same gene, which was prevalent in Asian populations, they said was associated with collectivism and a greater willingness to put the common good first.

People with this gene appeared to have a different response to serotonin.
If they are confirmed, the findings made by Chiao and her colleagues would suggest that races may have a number of inherent psychological differences — just as they differ in physical appearances.

Chiao suggests that the version of the gene predominating in Asian populations is associated with heightened anxiety levels and increased risk of depression.

She adds that such populations respond by structuring their society to ward off those negative effects.

The success of such social structures would then ensure that the gene would spread.

She added the findings showed how culture could exert a powerful influence on human genetics and evolution.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?

so....individualism has got to go, collectivism has to come in: and the "bioethicists" are working on it.

Re: Darwinism

Post by zone on Thu Mar 15, 2012 12:13 pm

I wanted to read a short book so the librarian recommended me the book The Next Million Years by Charles Galton Darwin.

It’s from 1952.

The librarian told me that Charles Galton Darwin was the grandson of Charles Darwin.

Charles Galton Darwin comes from the Darwin family, and the Darwin family has had a lot of influence in the past, so you could say that Charles Galton Darwin probably has some influence too.

Erasmus Darwin, grandfather of Charles Darwin, was the founder of the Lunar Society. One of the members of the Lunar Society was Benjamin Franklin.

The founder of the Lunar Society, Erasmus Darwin, had in 1794 written a book called Zoönomia in which he outlined his theory of evolution, anticipating not only [Jean Baptiste] Lamarck’s ideas but even the theory of natural selection; this book had the distinction of being placed on the Catholic Index; its popularity among independent thinkers was thus assured ([Desmond] King-Hele 1977). [1]

While the French Revolution, and earlier the American Revolution, were acting out their destinies, influential forces at work in England were not only largely responsible for the Industrial Revolution, but were actively sowing the seeds of socialism. It has been acknowledged by [A.E.] Musson and [E.] Robinson (1969) and [R.E.] Schofield (1963) that the Lunar Society of Birmingham, which was active from about 1764 and 1800 and never had more than fourteen members, was the most influential group of men in England. This group’s influence continued long afterwards under the banner of The Royal Society. In an article on the Lunar Society, Lord Richie-Calder (1982) refers to the men it brought together as a company of “merchants of light”, a description used for just such a society in Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis, written more than a century earlier ([N.H.] Webster 1924). The Lunar Society got its name from the fact that it met monthly at the time of the full moon. Included as its members were such names as Erasmus Darwin, who was Charles Darwin’s grandfather; John Wilkinson, a cannon maker; James Watt of steam engine fame; Matthew Boulton, a manufacturer; Joseph Priestly, a chemist; Josiah Wedgwood, founder of the famous pottery business; and Benjamin Franklin, a correspondent in the American colonies. These men recognized that knowledge was power, and by pooling information from various activities and investigations, they were responsible for a number of scientific discoveries that served as the driving force for the Industrial Revolution. [2]

Charles Darwin got the credit for the theory of evolution, even though the credit should go to Alfred Russel Wallace. The theory of evolution is an essential core to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

Ohr Ganuz

From the Baal Shem Tov and onward there has been a radical shift in spirituality.

There is now the fusion of the Divine with the physical.

The Baal Shem Tov interprets the verse, "The earth shall rest a Sabbath to G-d" (Leviticus 25:2) as give materiality a rest; permeate the materiality with the Sabbath of spirituality and holiness. This is called in Kabbalistic terms "Ohr Ganuz," the hidden light that Hashem hid from the world after the sin of Adam.

Prior to the sin, all of physicality was infused with spirituality. When Moshiach comes this will happen again. But it is a process. A process that was actualized by the Baal Shem Tov. From this perspective, the body and all its materiality is no less holy and spiritual than the most sublime spiritual entities. It is the body that is the vessel to contain this light, and the vessel to comprehend Divinity in concrete tangible terms. Therefore, engaging in health maintenance practices for the sake of serving Hashem with more vigor, vitality and concentration is a very big mitzvah.

The more aligned a person is with his personal avoda (mission) in the service of Hashem, the more ohr ganuz he will have, and the more ohr ganuz he has the clearer his soul's messages will be. On a macro level, the world is nearing its completed tikkun (rectification).

Before the tikkun is complete and moshiach arrives, the Sages say that prophesy will return to the Jewish people. This is because the ohr ganuz is shining on the Jewish people more strongly now. And, in fact, we are witnessing a revival and flowering of hassogos in our generation.

Eugenics in Australia

Australian Clinic Uses IVF to Search out and Destroy Embryos With Cancer Gene

BY LIFESITENEWS.COM
Mon Feb 16, 2004 12:15 ESTComments (0)

MELBOURNE, February 16, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The eugenic practice of genetic testing to screen out the “unfit” has moved a step forward in Australia. Nathan Charles Runciman, a child born January 20, was conceived in a lab by in vitro fertilization. Using a process called pre-implantation genetic diagnosis he had two of his cells removed to test for the gene for bowel cancer. When the cells were found to be free of the cancer gene, he was implanted in his mother’s uterus and allowed to live.

The Age reports that on her first cycle at Monash IVF clinic, the reproductive medicine clinic of Monash University, Victoria, Australia, Mrs. Runciman produced eight embryos and five had the gene for cancer, including those regarded as the “strongest”, which would normally have been implanted. Of the three remaining embryos, one was “unsuitable for transfer”. This is the only epitaph that will be written for these tiny human beings who were then discarded as useless. Monash IVF chief executive Donna Howlett said in the Age that “Monash IVF screening had produced 15 babies tested for single gene disorders.” Victoria’s Monash University’s most famous son is notorious bioethicist, Peter Singer, a proponent of infanticide for disabled children and involuntary euthanasia for the elderly. His work to sell eugenics to the world scientific community has been immensely successful. Peter Singer was rewarded for his pioneering in bioethics with the prestigious Chair of Bioethics at Princeton University. Mrs. Runciman told The Age that, “if I was going to have a child, it was going to have a test.” She said she was “so happy he won’t get the disease”.
