France bans Wifi from creches and schools to reduce children's exposure to radiation

In a bid to reduce young children’s exposure to electromagnetic wave radiation, France has banned Wifi in nurseries, schools, kindergartens and childcare centres across the nation that cater for children under the age of six.

In primary schools, which also welcome older pupils and where computers are used in lessons, Wifi points in classrooms must be disabled when not in use, national frequencies regulator, L’Agence Nationale des Fréquences (ANFR) has said.

On top of these regulations, establishments offering public Wi-Fi access will now have to display a symbol indicating the presence of electromagnetic waves.

These restrictions, that came into force earlier this year, were put in place on the back of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the United Nations’ World Health Organization (WHO), warning that exposure to these waves, especially in young children, could be “possibly carcinogenic”.

Glastonbury council opposes 5G roll out due to its ‘unpredictable’ health effects

The introduction of 5G technology in Glastonbury has been opposed by town councillors until further information has been obtained on the health effects on residents.

For months, members of the community have raised concerns with the council about the safety of the technology, claiming that it is hazardous to human health and the environment due to the higher radiofrequency.

At a meeting on Tuesday June 11, a motion proposed by councillor Mike Smyth read: “This council has a social responsibility to protect the public and environment from exposure to harm, albeit unpredictable in the current state of scientific knowledge, and therefore opposes the roll-out of 5G in the Parish of Glastonbury – based on the precautionary principle – until further information is revealed from a newly convened 5G advisory committee.”

Proposal for 5G mast to be built in Bushey refused planning permission

A plan to build a 20-metre-tall 5G phone mast has been thrown out by a council after hundreds of people campaigned against it.

Before the council had refused the application, the plans were met with criticism. More than 200 people signed a petition against installing the mast in the road over health concerns.

Linda Rauch, 57, who lives in Bushey, was one homeowner who signed the petition.

She said: “I feel amazing following the decision made by the council since having this next to my home is extremely worrying.

“There have been public meetings on this and there were heated objections to the application for the mast.

“I think the council listened to what the public have to say.”

Mrs Rauch added the large frequencies of 5G is “very concerning” and believed it poses health risks.

Evaluation of the Genotoxicity of Cell Phone Radiofrequency Radiation in Male and Female Rats and Mice Following Subchronic Exposure

Results of the comet assay showed significant increases in DNA damage in the frontal cortex of male mice (both modulations), leukocytes of female mice(CDMA only), and hippocampus of male rats(CDMA only). Increases in DNA damage judged to be equivocal were observed in several other tis-sues of rats and mice. No significant increases in micronucleated red blood cells were observed in rats or mice. In conclusion, these results suggest that exposure to RFR is associated with an increase in DNA damage.

Appeals that matter or not on a moratorium on the deployment of the fifth generation, 5G, for microwave radiation

Radiofrequency (RF) radiation in the frequency range of 30 kHz‑300 GHz is classified as a ‘possible’ human carcinogen, Group 2B, by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) since 2011. The evidence has since then been strengthened by further research; thus, RF radiation may now be classified as a human carcinogen, Group 1. In spite of this, microwave radiations are expanding with increasing personal and ambient exposure. One contributing factor is that the majority of countries rely on guidelines formulated by the International Commission on Non‑Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), a private German non‑governmental organization. ICNIRP relies on the evaluation only of thermal (heating) effects from RF radiation, thereby excluding a large body of published science demonstrating the detrimental effects caused by non‑thermal radiation. The fifth generation, 5G, for microwave radiation is about to be implemented worldwide in spite of no comprehensive investigations of the potential risks to human health and the environment.

In conclusion, this article demonstrates that the EU has given mandate to a 13-member, non-governmental private group, the ICNIRP, to decide upon the RF radiation guidelines. The ICNIRP, as well as SCENIHR, are well shown not to use the sound evaluation of science on the detrimental effects of RF radiation, which is documented in the research which is discussed above (9,10,21-24,54,55). These two small organizations are producing reports which seem to deny the existence of scientific published reports on the related risks. It should perhaps be questioned whether it is in the realm of protecting human health and the environment by EU and whether the safety of EU citizens and the environment can be protected by not fully understanding the health-related risks.

Scientists call for Protection from Non-ionizing Electromagnetic Field Exposure

In 2009, the ICNIRP released a statement saying that it was reaffirming its 1998 guidelines, as in their opinion, the scientific literature published since that time “has provided no evidence of any adverse effects below the basic restrictions and does not necessitate an immediate revision of its guidance on limiting exposure to high frequency electromagnetic fields . ICNIRP continues to the present day to make these assertions, in spite of growing scientific evidence to the contrary. It is our opinion that, because the ICNIRP guidelines do not cover long-term exposure and low-intensity effects, they are insufficient to protect public health.

Inaccurate official assessment of radiofrequency safety by the Advisory Group on Non-ionising Radiation

Decisions about involuntary, continuous and widespread RF exposures in schools, hospitals, workplaces and public and private spaces in the UK and around the world have been made based upon inaccurate conclusions of the AGNIR report. Published in 2012, it continues to be used to justify RF exposures and dismiss concerns about possible adverse effects on health, well-being or development.

It is imperative that the chair and other experts evaluating scientific evidence and assessing health risks from RF radiation do not have such clear conflicts of interests or bias as Martin Röösli has. Indeed, being a member of ICNIRP and being funded by industry directly or through an industry funded foundation, constitutes clear conflicts of interest. Furthermore, it is recommended that the interpretation of results from studies of health effects of radiofrequency radiation should take sponsorship from telecom industry into account.

Guidelines for the installation and operation of Wi-Fi networks in schools Following a petition by the National Parents' Leadership and the Organization for “Sensible” Use of Cellular Technology to the Israeli Supreme Court requesting the Ministry of Education to ban the use of Wi-Fi in Schools, an inter-ministerial committee has issued a Ministry of Education Director General's Circular for the use of Wi-Fi in schools. Guided by the precautionary principle, the Circular establishes guidance and restrictions for minimizing exposure in schools. This includes limiting the age of exposure (use of Wi-Fi is prohibited in kindergartens) and the hours of use in schools, installing equipment such that exposure would be as low as possible, and monitoring RF radiation levels.

Conclusion

The nine Bradford Hill viewpoints on association or causation regarding RF radiation and glioma risk seem to be fulfilled in this review. Based on that we conclude that glioma is caused by RF radiation. Revision of current guidelines for exposure to RF radiation is needed.

CONCLUSIONS

This paper has highlighted the significance of human RF exposure issue in downlink of a cellular communications system. This paper measured the exposure level in terms of PD and SAR, and compared them to those calculated in the Release 9 as a representative of the current mobile communications technology. Distinguished from the prior art that studied uplinks only, this paper has found that the downlinks of a 5G also yield significantly higher levels of PD and SAR compared to a Release 9. Our results emphasized that the increase stems from two technical changes that will likely occur in 5G: (i) more APs due to deployment of smaller cells and (ii) more highly concentrated RF energy per downlink RF beam due to use of larger phased arrays. As such, unlike the prior work, this paper claims that RF fields generated in downlinks of 5G can also be dangerous in spite of far-field propagations. Therefore, we here urge design of cellular communications and networking schemes that force an AP to avoid generation of RF fields if pointed at a human user with an angle yielding a dangerous level of PD and SAR. To this end, this paper identifies as the future work proposition of techniques that reduces human exposure to RF fields in 5G downlinks.

Conclusion

Although 5G technology may have many unimagined uses and benefits, it is also increasingly clear that significant negative consequences to human health and ecosystems could occur if it is widely adopted. Current radiofrequncy radiation wavelengths we are exposed to appear to act as a toxin to biological systems. A moratorium on the deployment of 5G is warranted, along with development of independent health and environmental advisory boards that include independent scientists who research biological effects and exposure levels of radiofrequency radiation. Sound regulatory policy regarding current and future telecommunications initiative will require more careful assessment of risks to human health, environmental health, public safety, privacy, security and social consequences. Public health regulations need to be updated to match appropriate independent science with the adoption of biologically based exposure standards prior to further deployment of 4G or 5G technology.
