Posting & Forum Capabilities
I really wanted you guys to have 'What You See Is What You Get' (WYSIWYG) capabilities but unfortuanately that kinda bling isn't available with free forums. Thats the price you pay to be without horrid unChristian adverts.

....and eachother!
If you have any questions on how to do stuff with your posts, please open a thread in this section of the forum. This thread is locked and is for posting announcements only.
Thanks.

Re: Posting & Forum Capabilities
If you want to paste things in from another source and keep the fonts and colors and wotnot....forget it.
Paste your source text into the post then highlight all the text and hit the 'remove text formatting' button on the far right (but one) of your toolbar to clean it.
After you do that then you can font and color the text to your liking.
One thing to remember, if you want to RESIZE any text...DO THAT FIRST before you bold or color it or whatever. After you resize, the 'size' code pops up in your text (it's the only option that shows code in your post, dunno why). After you have have resized then you highlight the text INSIDE that you want to color or bold or undeline WITHOUT TOUCHING THE RESIZE CODE....and then format that text between the resize code to your liking.
If you format the resize code you will mess up. Like this!
For fine tune highlighting of text (using the mouse can be annoying and sometimes impossible) I like to use SHIFT and the CURSOR KEYS.
Cheers, Doc.

Re: Posting & Forum Capabilities
When you add images or video or a link in using the toolbar, it seems to add them always into the top left of your post regardless of where your curser is. Weird.
You just need to cut and paste it from there to wherever you want it to appear in your post.

Re: Posting & Forum Capabilities
Images can simply be copied (right click 'copy) and pasted into posts. No need to use the toolbar.
Re: Posting & Forum Capabilities
Google Video
If you want to add video from google (not youtube) you go to the video that you want to add then click where it says 'embed video' and copy the code. Then paste the code directly into your post. Don't use the 'video' button in the toolbar.
Youtube Video
For youtube, go to the video of your choice and copy the url in the address bar of the browser. Then go to your post and hit the 'video' button in the toolbar. Paste the code then hit ok.

Re: Posting & Forum Capabilities
Forum tip of the week:
On the homepage above the staff announcements you'll see this...
View posts since last visit • View your posts • View unanswered posts
If you click on View your posts you'll see a list of all the threads that you have posted in.
In the far right column you'll see who posted last in that thread. If you click on the little page icon next to their name (I like to middle click to bring it up in a new tab) it will take to you to their last post in that thread.
Kinda groovy way to keep track of your convo's

Re: Posting & Forum Capabilities
If you are copying text from other websites or forums, it's likely that the formatting isn't gonna be compatable. One that seems to work fine is wikipedia, but for this kind of operation I recommend using the steps below.
1) Copy the text from the source.
2) Go to your reply box on our forum and click the 'switch editor' button. It's the one in the diagram below that I've put a red box around.
3) Paste your text into the reply.
4) After the text is pasted in (without any formatting) click the 'switch editor' button again, and you can format your text manually.
Another way would be to have a text file open and always paste text into it (to remove formatting) and then cut and paste it out of there and into your reply.
I find the steps above better, however, as it keeps the paragraph breaks.
