Laws of Noah in Ghana

Patrick Apedu, a local UN NGO from Ghana community, is working to help brige the gap between young and old to understand each other. Rabbi YD Cohen was in Ghana to help with the Laws of Noah a universal code to all people.

Especially now in these turbulent times, when so many people everywhere feel pressured and unsettled as a result of the global financial crisis, it is more important than ever to focus on the most important part of life: the spiritual integrity of human beings before G-d and the desire of the Creator to bestow all blessings on humanity through the full and complete redemption. I similarly got about 10 minutes in and had to turn it off I felt so sick.

There seems to be only 2 or 3 rabbis who are churning out all the propaganda.

Yitzhak Cohen is the one in the ghana vid and he's also the one who was at the UN noahide meeting with Joop Tienson watchamakalim....so he's like, the rabbi out and about doing the rounds out on the street getting his hands dirty...and theres the other guy in that noahide conference video who seems to deal with most of the spiritual deceiving...whos name is Chaim Richman, he does losts of youtube vids.

US Public Law 102-14

Congress recognizes the historical tradition of ethical values and principles which are the basis of civilized society and upon which our great Nation was founded. These ethical values and principles have been the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization, when they were known as the Seven Noahide Laws.

Without these ethical values and principles the edifice of civilization stands in serious peril of returning to chaos. Society is profoundly concerned with the recent weakening of these principles that has resulted in crises that beleaguer and threaten the fabric of civilized society. The justified preoccupation with these crises must not let the citizens of this Nation lose sight of their responsibility to transmit these historical ethical values from our distinguished past to the generations of the future.

The Lubavitch movement has fostered and promoted these ethical values and principles throughout the world.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, leader of the Lubavitch movement, is universally respected and revered. In tribute to The Rebbe, 1991 will be the year in which we return the world to the moral and ethical values contained in the Seven Noahide Laws.

This will be reflected in an international scroll of honor signed by the President of the United States and other heads of state.

Therefore, be it resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that the birthday of The Rebbe be designated “Education Day, U.S.A.”. The President [George Herbert Walker Bush, American International (AIC-AIG), Harriman, CFR, TRC, Freemason, CIA, Carlyle, Bilderberg, etc. etc.] is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

The above is paraphrase, without all the procedural fluff. The original bill is on the Library of Congress’ website. The bill was titled “Education Day, U.S.A.”, and was passed on March 5, 1991 by “Unanimous Consent”, after the entire membership of the House of Representatives had already been dismissed, after having been told that the day’s work, including all the voting, was over. After virtually all members had left, the authors of the resolution brought it up for a vote on the House floor – with only four hand-picked members present — and it was passed by voice vote with no record made. Two days later, the U.S. Senate passed the Resolution by voice vote, again with no recorded vote. On March 20, 1991, it was signed by President George H. W. Bush and became Public Law 102-14.

The Seven Talmudic Laws for All Humanity

Prohibition of Idolatry: You shall not have any idols before God.

• Prohibition of Murder: You shall not murder.
  
• Prohibition of Theft: You shall not steal.
  
• Prohibition of Sexual Promiscuity: You shall not commit any of a series of sexual prohibitions, which include adultery, incest, bestiality and malehomosexual intercourse.
  
• Prohibition of Blasphemy: You shall not blaspheme God’s name.
  
• Dietary Law: Do not eat flesh taken from an animal while it is still alive..
  
• Requirement to have just Laws: You shall set up an effective judiciary to enforce the preceding six laws fairly.
  

According to Jewish law (according to Wikipedia anyway), non-Jews are not obligated to convert to Judaism, but they are required to observe the Seven Laws of Noah. Those who subscribe to the observance of such laws and their supporting organizations are referred to as B’nei Noah [בני נוח], Children of Noah , or Noahides.

A non-Jew who keeps the Noahide Laws [שבע מצוות בני נח] in all their details is said to attain the same spiritual and moral level as Israel’s own Kohen Gadol (high priest) [כהן גדול].Maimonides states that a non-Jew who is precise in the observance of these Seven Noahide commandments is considered to be aRighteous Gentile and has earned a place in the world to come.

Christians are neither Jews nor Gentiiles.

Christians believe in virtues, not values.; and aspire to follow the Ten Commandments. Torah, not Talmud.


If a non-Jew is to be accepted to live among the Jewish people in the Land of Israel, then that person must keep the Noahide Laws, and a number of additional Laws and regulations apply as well. Such as person is called a Ger Toshav“Sojourning Alien” [גר תושב] amid the people of Israel. A “Ger Toshav” is the only kind of non-Jew who Jewish law permits to live among the Jewish people in the Land of Israel when the land is run according to Halacha and there is a Sanhedrin and a Temple.Jewish law only allows the official acceptance of a “Ger Toshav” as a sojourner in the Land of Israel during a time when the Year of Jubilee (yovel) is in effect.

Chabad-Lubavitch has been the most politically active in Noahide matters, believing that there is spiritual value to non-Jews by even just acknowledging the seven laws. In 1989 they had a reference to these laws surreptitiously enshrined in a congressional proclamation..

In April 2006, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Israel, Sheikh Mowafak Tarif, met with a representative of Chabad-Lubavitch to sign a declaration calling on all non-Jews in Israel to observe the Noahide Laws as laid down in the Bible and expounded upon in Jewish tradition. The mayor of the Galilean city of Shefa-’Amr (Shfaram) also signed the document.

In 2007, Chabad-Lubavitch gathered ambassadors from Poland, Latvia, Mexico, Panama, Ghana, and Japan. to take part in a gathering to declare, in the name of the states they represent, their support of the universal teachings of Noahide Laws. To the amazement of the audience at the Kinus, the embassadors signed a special proclamation which calls for all mankind to follow the Sheva Mitzvos Bnei Noach and to accept the everlasting kingship of the Rebbe Shlita as Melech Hamoshiach.

Christianity and Judaism

Jews hold that other nations and peoples are not required (nor expected) to obey the Law of Moses, with the notable exception that the only laws Judaism believes are automatically binding (in order to be assured of a place in the world to come) on other nations are known as the Seven Laws of Noah. Thus, as an ethnic religion, Judaism holds that others may have their own, different, paths to God (or holiness, or "salvation"), as long as they are consistent with the Seven Laws of Noah.

Christianity is characterized by its claim to universality, which marks a significant break from current Jewish identity and thought, but has its roots in Hellenistic Judaism. Christians believe that Jesus represents the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham and the nation of Israel, that Israel would be a blessing to all nations. Some Christians believe that the Law was "completed" by Jesus and has become irrelevant to "faith life", for details see Biblical law in Christianity. Although Christians generally believe their religion to be very inclusive (since not only Jews but all gentiles can be Christian), Jews see Christianity as highly exclusive, because some denominations view non-Christians (such as Jews and Pagans) as having an incomplete or imperfect relationship with God, and therefore excluded from grace, salvation, or heaven. For most Christians, it is the stated or "confessed" belief in Jesus as Savior that makes God's grace available to an individual, and salvation can come no other way (Solus Christus in Protestantism, Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus in Catholicism, see Dual covenant theology for a dissenting view).

Many Jews view Christians as having quite an ambivalent view of the Torah, or Mosaic law: on one hand Christians speak of it as God's absolute word, but on the other, they apply its commandments with a certain selectivity (compare Biblical law in Christianity). Some Jews contend that Christians cite commandments from the Old Testament to support one point of view but then ignore other commandments of a similar class that are also of equal weight. Examples of this are certain commandments that God states explicitly shall abide "for ever" (for example Exo 31:16-17, Exo 12:14-15), or certain practices which God prohibits as abominations, but which are not prohibited by most Christian denominations.

Christians explain that such selectivity is based on rulings made by early Jewish Christians in the Book of Acts, at the Council of Jerusalem, that, while believing gentiles did not need to fully convert to Judaism, they should follow some aspects of Torah like avoiding idolatry and fornication and blood,^[19] including, according to some interpretations, homosexuality. This view is also reflected by modern Judaism, in that Righteous Gentiles needn't convert to Judaism and need to observe only the Noahide Laws, which also contain prohibitions against idolatry and fornication and blood.^[20]

Some Christians agree that Jews who accept Jesus should still observe all of Torah, see for example Dual-covenant theology, based on warnings by Jesus to Jews not to use him as an excuse to disregard it,^[21] and they support efforts of those such as Messianic Jews (Messianic Judaism is considered by most Christians and Jews to be a form of Christianity^[22][23][24]) to do that, but some Protestant forms of Christianity oppose all observance to the Mosaic law, even by Jews, which Luther criticised as Antinomianism, see Antinomianism#Antinomian Controversies in Lutheranism and Luther#Anti-Antinomianism for details.

A minority view in Christianity, known as Christian Torah-submission, holds that the Mosaic law as it is written is binding on all followers of God under the New Covenant, even for Gentiles, because it views God’s commands as "everlasting" (Ps 119:152, 119:160; Ex 12:24, 29:9; Lev 16:29) and "good" (Neh 9:13; Ps 119:39; Rom 7:7-12).

Dual-covenant theology

Dual-covenant theology is a Liberal Christian view that holds that Jews may simply keep the Law of Moses, because of the "everlasting covenant" (Genesis 17:13) between Abraham and God expressed in the Hebrew Bible, whereas Gentiles (those not Jews or Jewish proselytes) must convert to Christianity or alternatively accept the Seven Laws of Noah. Many forms of Christianity, especially Conservative Protestants, consider this view to be heresy. The alternative Christian views are that the Law of Moses has been superseded or abrogated.

The ongoing Christian debate over Christian views on the old covenant began in the lifetime of the apostles, notably at the Council of Jerusalem and Incident at Antioch, and parallels the ongoing debate about Paul of Tarsus and Judaism and the Protestant views of the Ten Commandments.

Noahides 2.0: Internet fuels non-Jewish interest in the Seven Laws of Noah

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (JTA) -- When Jack Saunders began questioning the core religious claims of Christianity in the mid-1980s, it set him on a journey that eventually led to his embrace of the Torah and Jewish teachings.

But rather than become Jewish, the former Baptist minister -- at the time the head of a small rural parish near the Georgia-Tennessee border -- ultimately took on the identity of a B'nai Noah, or Noahide. The term refers to the covenant that God made with Noah after the flood, requiring all humankind to observe seven categories of laws: the prohibitions on idolatry, murder, theft, sexual immorality, blasphemy and eating the limb of a living animal, and the requirement to establish courts of justice.

Saunders gradually began gently prodding his followers in that direction, too, preaching solely from the Old Testament and quietly sowing doubts about central Christian teachings like the virgin birth. Eventually, approximately half the church members became Noahides as well, tearing down the church steeple and renaming their congregation Frazier's Chapel B'nai Noah Study Center.

“I had made a promise to God that if he would show me truth, I would say it no matter what,” Saunders told JTA. “On the emotional side, it was pretty heavy stuff. But on the intellectual side, I knew this was right. This is the truth. But you don’t stand up the next Sunday morning and say, 'Let me tell ya, all this stuff I’ve been teaching before, it’s all a lie. Now I really got the truth.' Psychologically, that’s just not going to work.”

In the past, non-Jews interested in the Noahide laws often turned first to their nearest rabbi -- usually a Chabad emissary, as Noahides typically hail from areas of the United States with little or no Jewish presence -- or to one of the handful of Orthodox rabbis who have been willing to help them.

But in recent years, Noahide activity on the Internet has exploded. In addition to several informational Web sites that discuss the laws, Noahides have numerous ways to study and connect to each other, including a virtual Noahide yeshiva, Noahide personals and an organization of Noahide home-schoolers that provides detailed curricula for Noahide youth.

“A Noahide has some freedom in deciding how to celebrate,” advises the curriculum guide for Passover. “Consider reading a story of the Exodus, or watching Dreamworks' 'Prince of Egypt' before or after the meal.”

Kristine Cassady, a 31-year-old mother who home-schools her five children in Indianapolis, started the Noahide Online Association of Homseschoolers, or NOAH, two years ago because of the few Noahide resources available for children. Cassady says about 35 families are now affiliated with the group.

“We're trying to teach our children Torah, coming to the realization that Hashem has given the nations the laws from Noah,” Cassady said. “We were trying to find this information to give it to our children and pass down this heritage, and basically reclaim what was ours but had been lost on the way.”

Like Saunders, most B'nai Noah come from Christian or messianic Judaism backgrounds, and their frustrations with Christianity tend to be more intellectual than spiritual.

“We were always seeking the truth, we didn't care where it fell,” said Ray Pettersen, who runs the Web site NoahideNations.com and hosts a Noahide radio show on Arutz Sheva, an Israeli station with conservative viewpoints. “In Christianity we always found flaws, but when you ask the pastor, you're always told, 'Well you got to have faith.' For someone like me, that's not good enough.”

Many B'nai Noah report that when they first sought information on the Noahide laws, they were frustrated by the lack of knowledge or interest on the part of the rabbis they contacted. But with the spread of the Internet, the curious can now choose from an impressive array of books and Web sites -- many operated by Chabad or its affiliates, others by Noahides themselves.

The Internet also has helped foster a sense of community for Noahides, who can study Torah and participate in discussion groups now with Noahides from around the world. Several sites list contact information for Noahide communities as far afield as Brazil and the Philippines, while events such as the virtual Rosh Hashanah -- hosted by the Oklahoma B'nai Noah Society with the help of a webcam and microphone -- help unite Noahides separated by geography.

Several conferences also have brought Noahides together, the most recent of which was held over three days in early June near Dallas.

“We need communities,” said conference organizer Andrea Woodward, a Texan who followed her Baptist minister into Noahide belief 16 years ago. The minister went on to move to Israel and become an Orthodox Jew.

“The Internet has been our primary connection through the years,” Woodward said. “And that is growing. But can you imagine if all your friends are Internet friends? It's just not satisfactory.”

Building communities entails creating religious practices, another area where Noahides have directed their energies. Nearly all the Noahide laws are prohibitions, and many Noahides say they need rituals to pass on some affirmative religious identity to their children. But mindful of the fact that most Torah laws are incumbent only on Jews, and of the prohibition on creating a separate religion, they adhere strictly to rabbinic dictates concerning what they may observe.

The Oklahoma group spent 11 years creating a Noahide siddur, “Service From the Heart,” that also functions as a guide to Noahide living. Many Noahides mark Shabbat by blessing wine and eating a festive meal, and refrain from eating pork products. On Sukkot, the Oklahoma group hosts an annual gathering that this year attracted about 25 people. They built a sukkah for eating and prayer, and screened the Israeli film “Ushpizin” on the sukkah wall.

“It was awesome,” said Pam Rogers, the group's director.

Rogers says about 16 people are affiliated with the Oklahoma B'nai Noah Society, about half of them children. The group's next project is the publication of an illustrated children's book, written by Rogers, that will help convey Noahide teachings to kids.

“One of the precious things that the rabbis in Israel are doing is trying to give us liturgy and halachah that's not new, but something that we can pass on to the children,” Woodward said. “Noahides that come of age to marry have grown up without friends of like faith. There's no one to marry. And in order for us to have this thing grow and be passed on generation to generation, we need some structure. We need some rites of passage.”

Though some Noahides go on to formally embrace Judaism as converts, their geographic separation from the centers of Jewish life renders that choice viable for only a few. But Noahides also take comfort in the knowledge that the Torah has ordained a purpose for them as gentiles.

“We decided Hashem might need more gentiles than he needs Jews,” Rogers said. “We set out to be the best B'nai Noah we can be.”

Pettersen believes he can be more effective in spreading the truth of Torah as a gentile. Though he quit his job and spent two years studying Torah full-time, he never felt called to convert.

“If Hashem decides to change that,” Pettersen said, “He'll let me know.”

Two Chabad-run Noahide organizations 7for70 directed by Rabbi Boaz Kali from Israel and www.noahide.org directed by Rabbi Yaakov Cohen have received official recognition from the United Nations, and are authorized to work in the UN. This was the conclusion of a five-year process undertaken by Rabbi Cohen to push the organizations thru.

Their first official visit to the UN included participation in selecting the new judges for the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Rabbi Cohen asked the judges if the plan on judging with the fear of heaven, thus fulfilling one of the Seven Noahide laws.

The organizations are in the process of finding a permanent Shliach to the UN who will represent their organizations.

The newspaper reports that some circles in the Vatican has shown interest in this publication, and some Protestants too. But the Catholics and Greek-Orthodox have shown dissatisfaction with the idea. [ya right]

It is interesting to note that although such a publication didn't happen in 1985, it did happen years later when Rabbi Moshe Weiner from Israel published the two-volume set of "Sheva Mitzvos Hashem" which is a "Shulchan Aruch" for Goyim. It was commissioned by Ask Noah International and translated to English under the title "The Divine Code".
