Chabad missionaries to the Gentiles

One argument I sometimes hear is that, whilst Christian missionaries are trying convert Jews to another religion, Chabad missionaries only try to convert Jews to their own religion. The Institute of Noahide Code website clearly shows otherwise.

The Chabad missionaries who run The Institute of Noahide Code have a clearly defined mission:

The Institute of Noahide Code is an educational and research division of Hafatzah/outreach. The Institute was established in April 1989 and is a direct result of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’, Rabbi M. M. Schneerson’s teachings, which encourage the practice of The Seven Laws of Noah.

Boaz Kali runs this website dedicated to proving to Gentiles that Menachem Mendel Schneerson is the Jewish Messiah who will bring Redemption to the world. Rabbi Cohen and Cowen are both prominent Lubavitchers – Cowen himself is a convert to Judaism.

Given the news that the Lubavitchers also run Yad L’Achim, should we take Yad L’Achim seriously when they say they oppose missionary activity in order to convert people to other religions?

And not only Yad L’Achim – the Institute of Noahide Code has also been promoted on the websites of the Temple Institute, a haredi-run Jewish nationalist organisation calling for the reconstruction of the Jewish Temple.

It’s only natural for haredi missionaries to want to get their message out to everyone – Jews and Gentiles alike – and the same applies to Christian missionaries and Messianic Jews.

Noahide Nations Lobbies Federal Govt. for Noahides

This notice will provide information and a response regarding an issue that has been brought to the attention of Noahide Nations by way of a public platform. Noahide Nations and others have been falsely accused, publicly, as being “Xtian Orgs Posing as Noahides”. These false accusations were started by Frances Marakova of Rachav's B'nai Noah web site and Yahoo Group along with Pam Rogers and Nancy January of the Oklahoma B'nai Noach Society. They were in complete violation of Torah for not contacting me first if they had a complaint and instead went public with their false allegations. I have provided a great deal of information to many Rabbis in Israel and in the United States that clearly demonstrates the falsehood of their allegations. Now I wish to share some of this information with you.{jcomments on}
The issue stems from a current flaw within the IRS Taxonomy Coding System (NTEE) which the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) uses to label 501(c)3, tax exempt organizations. These codes are issued by IRS employees working in the Tax Exempt Organizations Department.

Noahide Nations recognizes that these are the types of issues that are more than plentiful as the Noahide Movement endeavors to bring forth the truth of HaShem and His Torah to the world. Joseph’s brothers did all they could do to remove Joseph from the picture but Joseph recognized it as being from HaShem for good. Noahide Nations also views these challenges as being from HaShem for good and that they are opportunities from HaShem to clear out these roadblocks to allow true Noahides to proactively participate in our role in His Creation in manifesting HaShem’s destiny for us as Noahides.

Now I would like to respond to the previously mentioned issue.

Form 1023 is the IRS application submitted by organizations requesting tax exempt recognition from the IRS. For reasons unknown to us as of this date the IRS internally designated Noahide Nations and other Noahide organizations with an “X20-Christian” code. They did so without our knowledge or consent.

Certainly anyone who does a cursory examination of the Noahide Nations web site will see that we are no more Christian than a Jewish organization would be Christian. We were made aware of this through a flurry of phone calls and emails from distraught Noahide Nations Members who had been deceived into believing that Noahide Nations was really a Christian organization posing as Noahides. I wish to thank these fine people who acted as true Noahides by contacting us directly and as a result of their concerns we became aware of the issue and can now do something about it

them as the “traditions of the elders” that “make the law of God of
none effect.” For hundreds of years, the Pharisees passed them down
from one generation to another as “Oral Traditions.” But finally they
were written down and made into Jewish law - after the Jews had murdered Jesus Christ.

When the city of Jerusalem and its Temple were destroyed in
A.D. 70, and the Jews were taken into captivity, the pagan heresies that
had, since the pagan worship of the golden calf in the wilderness,
been slowly infiltrating the true religion of the Israelites (which was
the worship of the TRUE God and the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ), the
Pharisees committed the “Oral Traditions” to paper, and the many books
of these “Oral Traditions” were collectively called – the Talmud.

It was then that the paganism that had been performed in
secret for hundreds of years – even by the priests in the temple – that
undermined the worship of the true God, now became open and public,
overwhelming the truths God had given to the Israelites. These heresies
were written down in the books that subsequently became known as the
Talmud (literally: “the teachings”) which became the “holiest” books of
the religion of Judaism.

The religion of Judaism began AFTER Jesus was crucified – not before.
Judaism was NOT the religion of the Old Testament. The religion of
the Israelites in the Old Testament was - - - Christianity. The whole
Old Testament is a history of a people – the Israelites – looking
forward to the coming of the Messiah – Jesus Christ. When Jesus was on
earth, He said to the Pharisees:

You search the Scriptures, thinking that in THEM you have eternal (literally – eonian) life; but THEY (the Old Testament Scriptures) are they that testify OF ME! (John 5:39)

Jesus was clearly stating that the Scriptures testified of
Jesus Christ. And remember that the only “Scriptures” that had been
written at that time were the books of the OLD Testament.

Jesus is revealing that the focus of the ENTIRE Old Testament is Jesus Christ – NOT Israel!

Israel was constantly straying from God – “whoring” after
pagan gods, as God Himself stated numerous times. It was this
undercurrent of paganism that began with the worship of the golden calf
in the wilderness, and proceeded through the rebellion of Korah, Dathan
and Abiram (Numbers, Chapter 16), and the wickedness of the sons of
Eli, and the abominations done by the Priests in the temple as recorded
in many Chapters in Ezekiel (especially Chapters 8-16) including the
worship of the pagan god, Tammuz, the worship of beasts and insects,
and the worship of the Sun god, that culminated in the spiritual
blindness of the Pharisees and virtually ALL the Jews in NOT
recognizing Jesus Christ as their Messiah – and their subsequent
dastardly murder of Jesus by Crucifixion.

The murder of Jesus Christ was the culmination of hundreds of
years of wickedness on the part of the Jews and their leaders, the
Pharisees, leading to total spiritual blindness, the result of which was
the beginning of the false religion of Judaism, with its diabolic
“holy” books collectively called – the Talmud.

The origin of the Noahide Laws is the Talmud. The Noahide Laws
have NOTHING to do with Noah, but are given this name to deceive the
masses, and to try to give these diabolic “laws” Biblical credibility
and authority. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Christians have
never even heard of the Noahide Laws, even though their (the
Christians’) Death Sentence is “signed, sealed and delivered” within these “Laws.”

These outrageously evil Talmudic Noahide Laws were concocted
by the Jews as a way to 1) take control of, 2) rule over, and 3)
EXTERMINATE - ALL Christians, and ALL “Gentiles”!

But a large number of these totally CLUELESS “Christian”
Zionists, including Pastor John Hagee, James Dobson, Chuck Colson, Chuck
Swindoll, Benny Hinn (who is Jewish), Kenneth Copeland, Tim LaHaye,
Joyce Meyer, the late Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and many other
prominent Evangelists and Pastors are actually spending their time
PROMOTING and DEFENDING the very people who are planning to EXTERMINATE
them!

John Hagee has publicly declared that the Primary Mission of the “Christian” Church is to SUPPORT ISRAEL!

Whatever happened to the definition of a Christian being - first and foremost – a follower of Jesus Christ?

“Christian Zionism” IS the SECOND Beast of Revelation 13, the
FIRST Beast being Jewish Zionism. You will notice in that Chapter that
the second beast, Christian Zionism, does exactly what the first
beast, Jewish Zionism, tells it to do.

Eventually, Jewish Zionism – working behind the scenes – will
manipulate the Christian Zionists into forcing ALL on earth to worship
the Jews – and - to worship Satan, who is the acknowledged leader of,
and gives authority to, both the first and second beasts – the Jews and
the “Christian” Zionists.

We can see that Satanic Plot developing right before our eyes
in the ranks of the 70 million evangelical Christian dispensationalists –
those who believe that the Jews (who are persecuting and genociding
the Palestinians and the people – especially Christians – in many other
nations around the world) – are God’s “chosen people.”

Their utter spiritual blindness is absolutely shocking!

We will see in this study that the Orthodox Jews plan to rule
over every “Gentile” in the world, referring to them (us) as Hasidic
Gentiles, those who are under the control of the Orthodox Hasidic Jews,
by the imposition of the Noahide Laws.

The Jews do not want the Gentiles to convert to Judaism
because they view Gentiles as lower than beasts and consider contact
with a Gentile as “defilement.” All Gentile women are called Whores by the Talmud, and all
little Gentile girls are called – Little Whores. All Gentile men are
considered homosexuals by the Talmud. And if a Jewish woman marries a
Gentile man, the Jewish woman now is termed a Whore.

However if a Jewish prostitute has sex with a Jewish man (a “John”), she is NOT considered a Whore!

You can see why Jesus said, “You have made the word of God of NO EFFECT through your (Oral) Traditions, which you have handed down. (Mark 7:13)


The Jews Threaten Dannemeyer





On March 14, 2008, I, former Congressman Bill Dannemeyer, the
author of the above article, received a letter sent Priority Mail with
Delivery Confirmation, from Boruch Ellison, writing for the
organization called, Jews and Hasidic Gentiles – United to Save America
(JAHG – USA). The letter was dated and Postmarked March 10, 2008.

It was addressed to me as the Director of my Organization
called “Americans for Voluntary School Prayer.” That name and its
accompanying address is given on my website at www.takebackourrights.org

Accompanying the letter were several pages, obviously meant to
intimidate me, containing names of well over a hundred Jewish rabbis,
mostly from New York, who are members of, or support, this
organization. The goal of the organization is to enforce the Noahide
Laws on every Gentile, making them slaves under the “rule” of the
Hasidic Jews, with the penalty of beheading for any violation of these
Satanic-inspired Noahide Laws.

In the letter, there is no mention of my website article
entitled “Now the U.S. Government Can Legally Kill Christians,” exposing
the Jews and their treachery and fraud in getting the Noahide Laws
surreptitiously passed by only FOUR Congressmen – and under false
pretenses (Education Day!) - yet claiming the Resolution was passed by
“Unanimous Consent. But it is obvious that the March 10 letter was in
response, at least indirectly, to that article, as the only place the
author of the letter could have found that particular address and the
name of the organization was on that website.

Do you think there is any chance this group of Hasidic Jews,
intent on enslaving ALL Gentiles under these ghastly Talmudic “laws,”
could have missed this article that revealed their dastardly
underhanded dealings?

The letter is a Set-up, in fact, it is Blackmail: “Either sign our petition condemning Palestinian ‘terrorism,’ or we will start a SMEAR Campaign against you.”

Please note that the letter arrived on Friday, March 14, 2008 – and an answer was arbitrarily demanded
by the following Friday, March 21, 2008, or they would begin the
SMEAR Campaign, telling the world that I, Bill Dannemeyer, had refused
to “condemn terrorism.”


Essentially, they gave me approximately ONEDAYto
answer their letter and get it in the mail, so it could be delivered
back to them by March 21, the deadline that they were arbitrarily
imposing on me. (A copy of my letter was also e-mailed to them on
March 21, 2008.)

If I had been out of town for a few days, or had not promptly
picked up the letter from my office address for some other reason,
their arbitrary “deadline” would have passed without my even being aware
of their letter, and they would have considered themselves “free and
justified” to begin their libelous campaign against me.

But fortunately, their sinister plan for Blackmail was foiled.

The newly elected president of France Nicolas Sarkozy, met with the Shliach of the Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach to Neuilly, Rabbi Dovid Zaoui, who presented the president with literature on the Sheva Mitzvos Bnei Noach. The bond between Sarkozi and Rabbi Zaui began about 12 years ago when Rabbi Zaui opened the Beis Chabad in Neuilly "Sarkozi always showed support for all Chabad activities, and he always seeks my advice before any important steps" Rabbi Zaoui told Chabad.info. Rabbi Zaoui offered him to write to the Rebbe by way of the Igros Kodesh...

...and he always received unbelievable answers.

Recently, after Sarkozy was elected as president of France, he has not forgotten his close friend and confidant, who he shares an ongoing relationship with.

The Prophecies of the Rebbe King Messiah are Popular in Vatican.

The Rambam writes in the Laws regarding Kings and their wars and the laws of King Moshiach that:

Jesus of Nazareth who aspired to be the Moshiach and was executed by the court was also spoken of in Daniel's prophecies [Daniel 11], "The renegades among your people shall exalt themselves in an attempt to fulfill the vision, but they shall stumble."

"Can there be a greater stumbling block than [Christianity]? All the prophets spoke of Moshiach as the redeemer of Israel and their savior, who would gather their dispersed ones and strengthen their [observance of] the mitzvos. In contrast [the founder of Christianity] caused the Jews to be slain by the sword, their remnants to be scattered and humiliated, the Torah to be altered, and the majority of the world to err and serve a god other than the L-rd."

"Nevertheless, the intent of the Creator of the world is not within the power of man to comprehend, for [to paraphrase Yeshayahu 55] His ways are not our ways, nor are His thoughts our thoughts. [Ultimately,] all the deeds of Jesus of Nazareth and that Ishmaelite [i.e. Mohammed] who arose after him will only serve to pave the way for the coming of Moshiach and for the improvement of the entire world, [motivating the nations] to serve G-d together, as it is written [Zephaniah 3], "I will make the peoples pure of speech so that they will all call upon the Name of G-d and serve Him with one purpose."

"How will this come about? The entire world has already become filled with talk of [the supposed] Messiah, as well as of the Torah and the mitzvos. These matters have been spread among many spiritually insensitive nations, who discuss these matters as well as the mitzvos of the Torah. Some of them [i.e. the Christians] say: "These commandments were true, but are not in force in the present age; they are not applicable for all time." Others [i.e. the Moslems] say: "Implied in the commandments are hidden concepts that cannot be understood simply; the Messiah has already come and revealed them."

"When the true Messiah king will arise and prove successful, his [position becoming] exalted and uplifted, they will all return and realize that their ancestors endowed them with a false heritage; their prophets and ancestors cause them to err."

We can clearly see this coming to fruition worldwide as many abandon false beliefs and embrace the truth.

The Torah maintains that the righteous Gentiles of all nations (those observing the Seven Laws of Noah,
listed below) have a place in the World to Come. But not all religious
Gentiles earn eternal life by virtue of observing their religion:

• While it is recognized that Moslems worship the same God that we do
  (though calling him Allah, He is the same God of Israel), even those who
  follow the tenets of their religion cannot be considered righteous in
  the eyes of God, because they do not accept that the Written Torah in
  the hands of the Jews today is the original Torah handed down by God and
  they do not accept the Seven Laws of Noah as binding on them.
  
• While the Christians do generally accept the Hebrew Bible as truly
  from God, many of them (those who accept the so-called divinity of
  Jesus) are idolaters according to the Torah, punishable by death, and
  certainly will not enjoy the World to Come. But it is not just being a
  member of a denomination in which the majority are believers in the
  Trinity that is idolatry, but personal idolatrous practice, whatever the
  individual's affiliation.

"...Maimonides contends that the Jewish nation can never launch a war with any nation (uniquely including Amalek and the seven Canaanite nations together) without first offering "a call to peace,"(keri'a l'shalom). In the Guide for the Perplexed, Maimonides explains further that the command to wipe out Amalek isn't based on hatred, but on removing Amalek-like behavior from the world (3:41). For Maimonides, then, the commandment is not necessarily fulfilled through killing; it can be fulfilled through moral influence and education.

Deuteronomy 20 distinguishes between the obligatory war of conquest against the seven nations of Canaan and other wars. However, according to Maimonides and Nahmanides, the obligation to offer a call for peace is applied to both. Nahmanides, in quoting a midrash, also claims that there is an obligation of a Jewish army, laying siege upon a town, to provide an open direction to escape for those of the enemy who do not wish to fight (Sefer Hamitzvot 5).

Some legal authorities were more eager to remove the command entirely from being applicable in our era. For example, in the 19th century, Rabbi Abraham Sachatchover argued: "If they repent from their ways and accept the Noahide commandments, and they no longer continue in the path of their forefathers, they are no longer held responsible for the sins of their forefathers." All peoples are “inventions”, whatever their ethnic or national identity. All are creations of the finite and fallible will of men except for the Chosen People.

Not long ago, Newt Gingrich had the candor and courage to say the “Palestinians” are an “invented people.” He understood that this invented people, or what Deuteronomy calls a “non-people,” was invented by the Arabs to supplant the Jewish people in the Land of Israel.

What Mr. Gingrich may not have understood, however, is that all peoples are “inventions” whatever their ethnic or national identity. All are creations of the finite and fallible will of men except for the Chosen People, who were created by Almighty God at Mount Sinai.

How might Plato and Machiavelli perceive this issue?

Plato is that most famous philosopher who discerned the artificiality of nations. All are governed by myths or opinions—the shadows appearing in the “Allegory of the Cave” in Book VIII of the Republic. The shadows are cast by men enchained to each on a wall behind which shines a light unseen by these cave-dwellers.

The task of the philosopher is to turn around and perceive that light and eventually leave the cave; for outside he will behold the ultimate source of light, the sun, the Truth that liberates us from the chains of myth or of mere opinions.

Machiavelli discerned as much in The Prince, where he teaches that the “state” is merely a human construction, a product of human will—of a founder who creates “new modes and orders.”

But neither Plato, a most subtle and concealed atheist, nor Machiavelli, a subtle but virtually unconcealed atheist, had any profound knowledge of the modes and orders of the Jewish people, of the people, and not merely an individual philosopher, who beheld the light at Mount Sinai. No other people can make such a claim (which I elaborate elsewhere); and this has been the basic reason why all invented peoples are inclined to hate the Jewish people.

Bear in mind that unlike Israel, neither Christianity nor Islam was founded as a nation, which means that Israel was founded as a religious nationality. Consistent with Plato, Christianity transcends nationhood—to which extent it is “cosmopolitan.” Analogously, Islam rejects the nation-state, to which extent it, too, is “cosmopolitan.”

Hence, until recently, Christianity has been imperialistic, and would be as imperialistic as Islam were it not for its Judaic recognition that a diversity of nations, governed by the Seven Noahide Laws of universal morality, manifest the infinite wisdom, power, and graciousness of God.

It is the Seven Noahide Laws that can make an invented nation peace and friendly to the one and only non-invented nation, knowing that the Torah of that nation is the source of the Noahide laws.

What is remarkable is that America is the only nation that was founded precisely on the Noahide laws, as one may readily confirm in the writings of the Puritans and in the legislation of colonial America, especially New England. Therein is the source of American Exceptionalism.

But this is not all.

Higher education in colonial America rejected European skepticism and atheism, which, consistent with Machiavelli, perceived all nations as products of the will of men. Free of that European mentality, America did not then succumb to the dichotomy of “ancients” versus “moderns,” or to the dichotomy of classical verses modern political science—or say the dichotomy of “virtue” verses “interests.”

This dichotomy has preoccupied and was made famous by the renowned Leo Strauss and his countless students. Alas, they have all gone astray on this most crucial issue, and primarily because they lacked an adequate understanding of the Torah, which transcends all dichotomies.

In other words, they did not possess an adequate understanding of Israel, the one nation whose laws were not invented by human beings.

Therein is the hitherto unknown secret of American Exceptionalism.

Christians Who Love Israel

In recent years, we have witnessed increasing support for Israel by Christian Evangelicals and other Christians in America. They view the establishment of the State of Israel as the miraculous fulfillment of the vision of Prophets in the Bible.

As they see it, the Jewish nation returned to its land, and as written in the Bible, the soil yields its produce, "For the Lord shall comfort Zion: He will comfort all her waste places; and He will make her wilderness like Eden and her desert like the garden of the Lord (Isaiah 51:3)."

They see the settlements and vineyards and are deeply moved, for behold, it is the fulfillment of the prophecy: "And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them" (Isaiah 65:21). "And I will bring back the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink their wine; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them" (Amos 9:14).

However, for many Jews the question arises: How should we relate to Christians who suddenly have become our friends? For nearly two thousand years, they persecuted the Jewish nation, murdered, plundered, expelled, coerced us to convert to Christianity, and suddenly they love us? Can we believe them? And what do we do with what the Rambam (Maimonides) wrote, that Christianity has the status of idol worship?

The Attitude towards Israe

Apparently, everything is dependent on the attitude towards Israel. The most severe sin of Christianity was its denial of God's choosing Israel to be His Chosen Nation, and all the prophecies of Redemption spoken about the Jewish nation. They thought to replace Israel, and thus, caused us horrendous suffering, trying with all their might to convert Jews to Christianity. This is why the Sages amended the 'birkat Ha'minim' (the blessing on the heretics), or as the Rambam wrote (Laws of Prayer 2:1): "They would cause anguish to Israel, and incite them to turn away from Hashem."

It is no accident that the litmus test in this world for morality, truth, and faith – is the attitude towards Israel. Faith was revealed in the world by the Jewish nation, through Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaacov, the Exodus from Egypt, and the receiving of the Torah. Since then, God reveals Himself to the world through the events of Israel, in kindness and in judgment, in reward, punishment, and consolation, as written in the Torah and the Prophets

The Change in Recent Times

In recent times, we have witnessed significant changes in the attitude towards Israel. Our return to our Land, and our establishment in it, our eternal existence despite the murders and the Holocaust, the creation of the State of Israel, the prospering agriculture, standing-up to our surrounding enemies – all this aroused significant questions and new ideas within them.

Some hated us because, according to their understanding, our very existence here in Israel contradicts their faith, and under various pretexts, they always support our enemies. In contrast, today there are quite a few who believe, to some extent, that Israel is the Chosen Nation, who must return to their land, settle it, and occupy themselves with Torah and mitzvoth. They see it as a privilege to help fulfill the prophecies in the Bible.

That being the case, when it comes to Christians who believe that God chose Israel, and that all of the good prophecies should be realized within Israel, and they are not working to convert us, God forbid, rather, to strengthen us – then all the severe things mentioned about Christians do not apply to them. On the contrary – great tikun is being made by them, they are righteous Gentiles, and God will reward them.

Recently, I met a Christian American, Tommy Waller, and I asked him: 'If a Jew were to come to you and ask, what's better: to be a Jew or a Christian, what would you say to him?' He replied: 'I would tell him to be a Jew.' 'Although,' he added, 'I didn't always think that way. At first, all Christians want everyone to be Christian, but this position stems from ignorance.'

To his regret, people are publicizing things against him that he said in the past. After having visited Israel, he began to recognize the great value of the Jewish nation. He encourages people to visit Israel and help work the land, while being aware of what is said in the following verses concerning Israel: "But you shall be named, Priests of the Lord: men shall say of you, Ministers of our God…and their seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among peoples: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord has blessed."

"Concerning faiths which have diverted from the Torah, such as Christianity and Islam, the essence of their venom does not lie in their concept of divinity, which is different from what it should be according to the fundamental light of the Torah, but rather what stems from this – the obliteration of practical mitzvoth, and the cancellation of the [Jewish] nation's hope in relation to its complete revival" ("Shmoneh K'vatzim", kovetz A: 32).

As We Learned in the Torah Portion

Similarly, we learn in this week's Torah portion that treatment of the nations is determined according to their attitude towards Israel (Deuteronomy 23:4-9): 'An Ammonite or Moabite [man] may not enter God's marriage group. They may never enter God's marriage group, even after the tenth generation. This is because they did not greet you with bread and water when you were on the way out of Egypt, and also because they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to curse you…

You must never seek peace or anything good [with these nations], as long as you exist. Do not despise the Edomite, since he is your brother. Do not despise the Egyptian, since you were an immigrant in his land. [Therefore,] children born to [members of these nations] in the third generation [after becoming proselytes] may enter God's marriage group."

Our Attitude towards Amalek

Likewise, the severe attitude towards Amalek is determined according to their behavior towards Israel (Deuteronomy 25:17-19): "Remember what Amalek did to you on your way out of Egypt…" Also in 'halakhah' (Jewish law), all is dependent on the attitude towards Israel, inasmuch as before going to war against the nations, we must first call for peace – and this is also the law concerning Amalek. If they accept upon themselves to keep the seven Noahide commandments, with faith in Hashem the God of Israel, and agree to pay taxes – we cease fighting and killing them (Rambam, Laws of Kings 6:1-4, Kesef Mishneh, there).

Thus, the entire reason for the severe attitude towards Amalek is because they are a nation which embodies profound hatred towards Israel

Opinions in Jewish Law

The arbiters of Jewish law are divided on the question of whether Christianity is truly idol worship or not. According to the Rambam, Christianity is idol worship, since they believe that Jesus is god, and this has practical, 'halakhic' significance: it is everlastingly forbidden to do business with them (Rambam, Laws of Idol Worship, 9:4).

According to the opinion of Tosephot (Tractate Chulin 13b), even though they say he is god, it is only a custom of their ancestors, but in truth, they do not believe that he really is god, and therefore, it is permissible to do business with them.

All this is in relation to Catholics, for they have idols. But concerning Protestants who don't have idols, there is room to say that perhaps even the Rambam would be lenient.

Then, there is another question: Are the 'B'nei Noach' commanded not to worship idols in partnership, such as the trinity? In other words, if they believe in Hashem, the God of the heavens and earth, and also include an idol in their faith, do they thus transgress the prohibition of idol worship, which is one of the seven Noahide commandments? Or, are they not considered idol worshippers, but simply mistaken in this issue? The accepted 'halakhah' is that 'B'nei Noach' are not commanded concerning idol worship in partnership (Ran, Rabbeinu Yerucham in the name of Tosephot, Ra'ma, Orach Chaim 156:1).

There are some authorities who were entirely lenient, and according to their opinion, moral nations, in spite of being Catholic, since, as a rule, they believe in the unity of God, their 'halachic' status is that of 'gerim toshavim' (foreign residents), which is the highest status (Meiri, Maharitz Chiut).

\Those authorities who followed in their path, also wanted to be lenient in relation to the Germans, because they were a seemingly enlightened and civilized nation – until reality came and proved them wrong. Nevertheless, when it comes to those who love Israel, according to their opinion, they certainly can be considered 'gerim toshavim'.

For even according to the opinion of the Rambam, it is unclear whether the Protestants are considered idol worshippers in partnership; it is more likely that according to all opinions, they are not defined as idol worshippers, and their status is that of fulfilling the seven Noahide commandments and, in general, monotheists.

Who is Closer to Us

These Christians are closer to us than the secular, liberal leftists in Western countries, both in their faith in the Bible, and their ethics. Apparently, their perception of Human Rights is much more profound and meaningful as compared to the leftist view which, at times, is superficial and shallow.

The leftists constantly sing the praises of Human Rights, but in practice, they support the Arabs and Muslims, who, at present, are the most discriminatory group of Human Rights in the world.

Take for example, Martin Luther King, Jr., one of America's greatest human and moral leaders, who was a Baptist priest (one of the Evangelical denominations), and truly expressed the values of Human Rights. He based this on Biblical faith, and similarly, was a lover of Israel.

In a letter to an anti-Zionist friend in 1967, he wrote: "In the Western countries, once again it is not popular to publically express hate for the Jews. This being the case, the anti-Semite always searches for methods, ways, and new forums to dispense his poison. So, once again, he does not hate the Jews. He's only anti-Zionist. However, my friend… there is no room for mistake. When people hurl accusations at Zionism – their real goal are the Jews."

From the walls of his prison cell, where he sat for charges on his struggle for equal rights, he wrote: "I am sure that had I been in Nazi Germany in those times, I would have helped my Jewish brothers, and encouraged them, even though it meant violating the law…

Righteous Gentiles

There is still room to ask: Maybe there are some missionaries amongst our friends who want to convert us? Indeed, if such a thing is proven – they must be fought.

However, as far as anyone who has not been proven to be a missionary is concerned, we must return to the basic, appropriate conduct – respect and love. As Rabbi Kook said: "Love of creation…should spread to all mankind, despite all the differing opinions, religions and faiths, despite all the differences of races and climates…only on a soul rich in love of the creation and man, can love of the nation rise in all its pride and grace, and spiritual and practical greatness…"

Time for Israel to quit this den of iniquity

It's time for Israel to quit the United Nations. Indeed, It is demeaning for the Jewish commonwealth to remain in that international cesspool.


The UN General Assembly has become an international forum for promoting Palestinian statehood and delegitimizing Israel.

For decades, the United Nations has passed countless resolutions condemning Israel for its actions against the Palestinians, while almost never formally addressing Israel's security concerns and the ongoing campaign of Palestinian terrorism against Israelis. Before the Oslo Accords, the General Assembly "condemned", "vigorously condemned", "strongly condemned", "deplored", "strongly deplored", "censured", and "denounced" Israel 321 times; the Arabs: zero condemnations. Meanwhile, the Security Council "condemned", "censured", "deplored", "strongly deplored", etc. Israel 49 times; the Arab states: zero.

Yes, it is time for Israel to quit this den of iniquity - and tens of millions of Americans will applaud Israel for doing so. Having a forum at the UN is of dubious value, as is the UN itself.

John Bolton, former acting US Ambassador to the UN, has said, "There is no such thing as the United Nations. There is only the international community, which can only be led by the only remaining superpower, which is the United States." He also said that "the Secretariat Building in New York has 38 stories. If you lost ten stories today, it wouldn't make a bit of difference."

Fred Fleitz, a former senior adviser to Bolton, exposes UN waste and corruption and the resulting human costs. His book, Peacekeeping Fiascoes of the 1990s: Causes, Solutions, and U.S. Interests, provides a comprehensive critical assessment of the UN. Among other debacles, he shows how the failed UN mission in Bosnia led to unmitigated atrocities; how the UN debacle in Somalia emboldened terrorists the world over; how the UN peacekeeping operation in Haiti collapsed, with the billions of dollars squandered on it primarily benefiting Haitian President Jean-Bertrande Aristide. And then there was the "oil for food" scam between the UN and Saddam Hussein.

Now let us focus on Iran. It is obvious the UN will do nothing, and can do nothing, to stop Iran's nuclear development program. And judging from Barack Obama's policy of appeasing Islam, the US will do nothing to stop Tehran's nuclear weapons program, which may be only months way from producing its first bomb.

For Israel, a nuclear-armed Iran is an existential issue that raises the specter of another Holocaust. Israel must therefore take its future into its own hands; it must act unilaterally and choose the moment to attack Iran - as former US Ambassador to the United Nations Mr. Bolton urged in the Wall Street Journal on December 7, 2007.

Viewed in this light, the United Nations is passe, and good riddance. If a new UN is desirable, it should consist solely of the ninety or so states classified as democracies by Freedom House; those nations in which the state is the custodian of Man's God-given rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

If any country, from both a historical and theological perspective, is qualified to promote the formation of such a United Nations, it is Israel. Of course, not the Israel that kowtows to terrorist thugs. I mean an Israel on the way to constructing the Third Temple, where once more Jerusalem can stand majestically as in the days of King Solomon, attracting nations near and far. My heart and soul is recalling the prophecy of Zechariah about a time when "ten men of every nationality, speaking different languages, shall take hold of every Jew by the corner of his garment and say, 'Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'"

Yes, ten men of every nation. Surely, they will be nations that abide by the Seven Noahide Laws of Universal Morality, the true catholicism included in the Torah for all humanity. Ten men of every nationality journeying to Jerusalem the City of Peace, as well as the City of Truth.

Yet, at this point in time, let us not be carried away by tenderness. For peace and truth to unite and prevail, Israel must first triumph over her enemies, today led by Satanic Iran. Israel is waiting for the moment. She knows that the mullahs of Iran are driven by the memory of the Persian Empire. She knows that a nuclear-armed Iran in
My heart and soul is recalling the prophecy of Zechariah.
control of the Persian Gulf would ensure Iran's hegemony over the Middle East and beyond. Israel also knows that she will be the first target; for if Iran controls Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, a billion Muslims will exult in victory, will explode in frenzy and wreak havoc on the world, screaming "Allahu Akbar!"

So Israel will strike first, and this will mark the beginning of a new Middle East, one that hardly anyone dreams of. While Iran is being devastated, the Israel Defense Forces will crush Hizbullah, Hamas, Fatah and Syria. Israel will eliminate the entire terrorist network west of the Jordan River. Countless Arabs will flee from Judea and Samaria, as well as from Gaza - as they did after the Six-Day War.

The cruel and cynical peace charade will be over. The mendacity of Lilliputian politicians will be silent. The Lion of Judah will have triumphed. During the aftermath of perhaps two decades, Israel will organize the peace in cooperation with Muslim reformers found throughout Middle East; those who have been silenced by the mullahs and dictators.

The Seven Noahide Laws of Morality will unite the region. Non-secular constitutional democracies will begin to flourish. The United States will cooperate, but petro-dollars will no longer lubricate its diplomacy.

And so, at last, the ethos of jihad will cease to torment mankind, and the people of the Middle East, with the cooperation of a God-inspired Israel, will gain a new birth of freedom

Religion is not blameless. Its proponents need to identify the constructive elements in religious tradition and make them the agenda.

Not that governments will like it if religion says it has some solutions to offer: the politicians will tell religion to keep its nose out. Unfortunately, the politicians have not done such a great job themselves; there are some who pretend to be pursuing just and lasting solutions when the main things they want are re-election and personal immortality.


We must, however, acknowledge that antagonism to religion working at the coalface is partly caused by the Western doctrine that religion is a private matter, an affair of the individual soul and its God. Religion - certainly Judaism - needs to explain that its role was always public, as well as private. Abraham, Moses and the prophets had something to say to the world, not just to the individual soul.


So, in a world beset with problems that range from inter-group relations to shortage of resources, climate change, economic downturn, aging populations and lack of opportunity, religion has to speak out and put forward its ideas. This does not necessarily mean that every religion and every group within a religion will say the same things, nor that the public has to abdicate its judgment and do exactly what a particular religion or religious leader says.


The greatest contribution that religion can make is to explain its spiritual-ethical take on a given subject and work (rationally) to convince public figures and the public that it is right.

Death Penalty in Noahide Law



Many who are opposed to the Noahide Laws oppose its observance largely due to the issue of the death penalty. This issue will be addressed on the current page.

In the context of Torah (Divinely given Instruction), murder is any killing which is not justified according to the Instructions of the Absolute ONE - Lord of all existence; He is Creator and Ruler of all life. He ALONE is the Absolute Authority over all creation. He ALONE determines what is right and wrong, moral and immoral. According to His Will alone we were given existence and are sustained; and according to His Will ALONE are we permitted to exist. If we transgress the conditions of His permission for us to live, then if we were to be killed in the manner which He commands for us to be killed -- this is in no way murder and in no way wicked. Rather, such would be an upright act and the fulfillment of His commandments. HOWEVER, never is death of any type something to relish in. The Creator does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked ( See Ezekiel 18:23 or 33:11 ). Yet His commandments, under certain situations, demands their execution (See: Exodus 21; 31:14-15; Leviticus 20 - Keep in mind that only Noahide Laws apply to non-Jews). And His commandments are righteous, just, and true (See "The Everlasting Covenant"):

"All His precepts are certain.

They are upheld forever and ever;
They are carried out in truth and uprightness."

Those who oppose the Noahide Laws often oppose them due to their fear that the Noahide Laws would promote a desire among those who keep them to kill individuals who do not uphold the Noahide Laws. Additionally, due to the prohibition of idolatry, many Christians, as well as members of other religions, fear the establishment of a society that would uphold the Noahide Laws as binding, for fear that Christians, Hindus, as well as practitioners of other religions would be put to death.

It should first be pointed out that the Noahide Laws promote civil obedience to an established court system. A society of anarchy or a situation where individuals take law into their own hands are antithetical to the aims of the Noahide Laws. The Noahide Laws aim at a civilized society of order and peace. Individuals are not allowed to take law into their own hands by executing idolaters, homosexuals, or any other type of people who the Western World considers free to practice what they so desire. It seems to me that any such individual who takes the law into his own hands would himself be guilty of breaking the command concerning establishing courts in the Noahide Laws. The only person who may seem to be an exception is a "redeemer of blood." This is a person who kills someone of whom it is known for certain killed another individual, although this someone killed the other individual unintentionally. The Noahide Laws do not say that this "redeemer of blood" is allowed to kill the inadvertant killer; the Noahide Laws only state that the "redeemer of blood" is himself not worthy of the death penalty in the event that he does take revenge on the inadvertant killer; for the inadvertant killer is to some extent responsible for the death of the individual whom he killed; a court is not to punish the inadvertant killer.

Those deemed criminals according to the Noahide Laws are first to be tried in a valid court which itself upholds the Noahide Laws before any punishment is carried out. There are particular requirements of a court system under Noahide Law which would actually make a death sentence under such a court less likely than in American courts today.

* First, no punishment is given under the Noahide Laws for a case where there is no human witness of the actual prohibited crime.

* Second, some things considered crimes in American law or according to Christian or Muslim perspectives would not be considered crimes under Noahide Law; for example, although adultery is prohibited by the Noahide Laws, the definitions of marriage and divorce according to the Noahide laws are such that they makes adultery very unlikely to occure.

* A person who was forced to do a crime worthy of death is not punished; if he is forced, he is even permitted to do the crime rather than give up his own life.

* A person can not be sentenced for a crime based on the witness of more than half of potential witnesses, since only men can serve as a witness. There is a higher population of females on the planet than males.

* It seems to me that only an adult male whose faculties function properly and who keeps the Noahide Laws can serve as a witness, since minors, the deaf, and the handicapped are not termed "sons of the commandments," and any other adult male is himself assumed to be under the death penalty.

* Minors are not sentenced for punishment.

* The deaf are not sentenced for punishment.

* The mentally handicapped are never punished.

* A person who transgressed one of the Seven Commandments unintentionally is not punished, such as someone who had intercourse with his fellow's wife while thinking that she was [either] his own wife or unmarried;

Christians should find nothing offensive about a death penalty if this is truly what the All-mighty has decreed. After all, the Christian Scriptures themselves teach not only that those who are not Christians will be punished, but that after they die, they will be resurrected during Jes'us' reign on earth, and then be thrown into a lake of fire to burn forever. (See the Book of Revelation). Besides this, not all forms of Christianity are idolatrous. It is certainly worthwhile for a Christian to look deeply and carefully into this website, the topic of the Noahide Laws, as well as into the interesting history of early Christianity well before disregarding the Noahide Laws simply because of the issue of the death penalty.

Many historians believe that the earliest followers of the man from Gallilee would not have been considered idolaters according to Torah / Jewish Law, but that they were merely Jews who considered this man to be (or potentially be) the Messiah. This is backed up by the testimony of many early Catholic authorities and by the Christian Scriptures themselves when understood from a 1st Century perspective. Additionally, although any form of idolatry is forbidden according to the Noahide Laws, not all acts of idolatry are punishable by death. Any Christians who practice Christianity simply because they love the practices or ideas of Christianity or find them beautiful, or who practice Christianity out of a fear of damnation, or whatever else, are not liable for the death penalty so long as they have not truly accepted within themselves any created thing as the "power/authority" which they serve. Therefore, it would need to be determined within a Noahide court what the intent of the Christian's service was. Undoubtably, many myriads of Christians throughout the world do not practice Christianity because of a true inward acceptance of the human Jes'us as the the "power/authority" that they devote themselves to serve. If a Christian, or anyone else, did an act considered idolatry according to the Noahide Laws because of a feelings of love or of fear, but not because the individual accepted the object of idolatry as the power/authority over him which he serves as an act of devotion, there is no death penalty (Avoda Zarah 3:6).

Although according to the Noahide Laws a person should not do the prohibited act of homosexual intercourse, or any other act prohibited by the Noahide Laws, whether in public or in private, a person would only be liable for the death penalty for doing the prohibited act of homosexuality in the view of a valid witness. Any sane individual could do the prohibited act in a place where no one would witness the forbidden act; and if the individual is not sane, then as stated above, the law is that the mentally handicaped are not liable for the death penalty. Also important to note is that according to the Noahide Laws, a Behn Noah (one from the non-Israelite nations) is punished only the actual act of anal intercourse between two men. No punishment for other homosexual acts is given in the Noahide Laws. Lesbianism is also not prohibited to Bneh Noah (people from the non-Israelite nations). A society that upholds the Noahide Laws would be more accepting and understanding of those who are attracted to the same sex than the majority societies in the world today, though within the framework of law. This is because a society upholding the Noahide Laws would publicize the distinction between the specific prohibited act between two men and those acts which are not prohibited. Even in countries where full homosexual intercourse is allowed, most citizens of such countries still do not show much understanding towards such individuals due to the lack of distinction their religious views make between various forms and acts of homosexuality. This all said, it must be emphasized that the Noahide Laws do not advocate any homosexual acts or the development of a homosexual culture. The Noahide Laws merely put these things into perspective. While the Noahide Laws only present and enforce the basic laws binding on all the non-Israelite nations of the world, it also directs people toward the additional commands of the Torah given to the people of Israel for extra guidance and refinement of the individual's character, although the additional commandments given to Israel are not to be enforced upon the nations. The Noahide Laws (Hebrew: שבע מצוות בני נח -- Seven Noahide Laws), also called the Brit Noah ("Covenant [of] Noah") are the mitzvot (commandments) and halakhot ("laws") that Judaism teaches that all Gentiles are morally bound to follow. They are listed in the Talmud and elaborated on by post-Talmudic authorities. Opinions differ on the reach of these commandments and the laws derived from them, but all contemporary authorities agree that there are seven commandments. These commandments and laws are based on exegesis of Genesis 2:16 and Genesis 9:4-6 .

The Noahide laws

• Idolatry is forbidden. Man is commanded to believe in the One God alone and worship only Him.
  
• Incestuous and adulterous relations are forbidden. Human beings are not sexual objects, nor is pleasure the ultimate goal of life.
  
• Murder is forbidden. The life of a human being, formed in God's image, is sacred.
  
• Cursing the name of God is forbidden. Besides honoring and respecting God, we learn from this precept that our speech must be sanctified, as that is the distinctive sign which separated man from the animals.
  
• Theft is forbidden. The world is not ours to do with as we please.
  
• Eating the flesh of a living animal is forbidden. This teaches us to be sensitive to cruelty to animals. This was commanded to Noah for the first time along with the permission of eating meat. The rest were already given to Adam in the Garden of Eden.
  
• Mankind is commanded to establish courts of justice and a just social order to enforce the first six laws and enact any other useful laws or customs
  

Jews Held to a Higher Standard


According to the Rabbis, the Israelites were chosen by God to live under a special covenant with higher standards than the rest of Noah's descendants.

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. Exodus 19:5-6

He selected Israel for this higher responsibility because:

Noahides as Sojourning Aliens


From the Jewish perspective, if a non-Jew keeps all of the laws entailed in the categories covered by the Seven Noahide commandments, then he or she is considered a Ger Toshav (sojourning alien) when with a congregation of Israel. In fact, this is considered the ideal level for all humanity by Jewish theology. A Ger Tzedek is a person who prefers to proceed to religious conversion, a procedure that is generally discouraged by all sects of Judaism, and allowed only after much thought and deliberation over the conversion has taken place.

Islam is generally considered a Noahide religion. There is some disagreement over the status of Christianity; Conservative Jews see Christianity as idolotrous because of the doctrine of the Trinity and Jesus's divinity, while more liberal Jewish scholars consider it acceptable for Gentiles so long as only the One God is worshipped.

Modern Developments


Judaism does not usually support proselytization, but some Jewish groups have been active in promoting Noahidism among non-Jews, particularly the Chabad Lubavitch movement, and the self-styled "Sanhedrin" set up by Haredi rightists in Israel in 2004.

On March 20th, 1991, the 102nd Congress of the United States passed Public Law 102-14 to designate March 26, 1991, as "Education Day, U.S.A."; in the bill Congress recognized

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, (2) the Lubavitcher Rebbe, 1902-1994. His birthday has been regularly recognized by special Congressional declarations. These were effected by declaring his birthday "Education Day." The proclamations go as far back as 1976. Rabbi Schneerson's name appears in every bill and the date moves about on the Julian calendar to follow the wandering cycles of the Babylonian lunar calendar used by Judaism. In 1991, Congress coupled Rabbi Schneerson's birthday recognition with a declaration stating that the Talmud Noahide Laws are "the basis of civilized society and upon which our great Nation was founded". — US Congress (1)

The package on the Rebbe's forehead is a tephillin (or phylactery) which, as described by Reverend Dr. Abraham Cohen, "consists of two small leather cases with straps attached, in each of which is inserted parchment inscribed with four Biblical passages: Exod. xiii. 1-10, 11-16; Deut. vi. 4-9, xi. 13-21. That is the traditional method of fulfilling the law: 'Thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes.' Antonin Scalia, Supreme Court judge, is said to be a devout Catholic with a fascination for Jewish law. Under circumstances that are not explained, Justice Scalia developed a correspondence with Rabbi Noson Gurary (a disciple of the late Rabbi Schneerson). During this exchange, Scalia mentioned his "fascination with Jewish law." That prompted Rabbi Garary to found the National Institute for Judaic Law (NIJL). (45) The Institute promotes courses on Talmud-based law in American law schools and otherwise injects Talmud-based law into American society.

The founding of NIJL was celebrated by a gala kosher dinner on November 5, 2002. Justice Scalia and two other Supreme Court judges were among 200 dinner guests. Where was the dinner held? In the Supreme Court building.

The American public first learned of the Supreme Court kosher dinner by reading the news in The Jerusalem Post, November 9, 2002. (45) This remarkable event was not reported contemporaneously by either The Washington Post or The Washington Times. Missing from The Jerusalem Post coverage was the role Scalia may have played in securing the use of the Supreme Court building as a banquet hall for Rabbi Gurary.

Why a devout Catholic like Justice Scalia would promote Talmud-based law is not clear. The Talmud classifies Christians as idolaters, and the Noahide regulations require that idolaters — devout Catholics, for example, people exactly like Justice Scalia — be put to death. Could it be that Rabbi Gurary did not tell Justice Scalia about the Noahide provisions to execute people like Scalia?

Justice Scalia has demonstrated a soft spot for Judaism in other ways. He was the first judge to use the world chutzpah in a Supreme Court decision. (41)

According to an article in Jewish Law, "… Justice Scalia … has repeatedly called for more expressions of tradition and religion in American society. The use of the word chutzpah, with its historical roots and association with Judaism, may fulfill such a role. It also comports with his legal philosophy. He favors the 'nonpreferentialist' view, which posits that government may support religion in general but not in a way that prefers any particular religion. For Justice Scalia to use a term of a Jewish cultural language in a Supreme Court decision could be viewed as in keeping with the nonpreferentialist legal doctrine." — Jewish Law (54)

The word chutzpah is not a religious word, nor is it a traditional American word. It is a Yiddish word meaning, roughly, "unmitigated gall." It is surprising that Jewish Law would attach such significance to the incidental use of a Yiddish word.

If given a judicial opportunity, will Justice Scalia rule in favor of the Noahide Laws? He could describe them as "nonpreferentialist," in the much the same way that Congress described them as "the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization." That sounds most "nonpreferentialist," provided one does not mention death sentences for Christians.


Equal Justice Under Law

Talmud law also provides that Jews and non-Jews be judged by dramatically different standards. For example, in capital cases, 23 judges must sit in judgment on a Jew; two eyewitnesses must have witnessed the offense, and warned him of the potential penalty. In contrast, a Gentile gets one judge, and is convicted on the testimony of one eyewitness with no warnings. See US v. Talmud Law for more details on capital cases. Justice Scalia has sworn an oath to uphold the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Given that the words Equal Justice Under Law are emblazoned over the cornice of the very building that houses Scalia's office, Justice Scalia is one Very Interesting Person.

This is to state my unequivocal objection to the use of my name in any way in association with the Conference on the Noahide Code and Contemporary Social Problems at Cardozo Law School for March 15, 2000. My name has appeared on recent posters for this Conference.

Of the Conference speakers, four are "Consulting Torah Scholars" of the Root and Branch Association, an ecumenical organization consisting of Catholic Priests and Nuns, Protestant Ministers, practicing Muslims and Rabbis. It is contrary to Halacha to be a member of or affiliated in any way with any such organization. The four speakers are Rabbis Katz, Schwartz and Professors Lichtenstein and Rakover.

The Root and Branch Association, according to information, as of February 17, 2000, on its WEB site, post articles promoting the exploration of the values and views of the various world religions and which specifically contradicts the Torah mandated role of Judaism as the only true religion for all of mankind, either as Jews or as Bnai Noach.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES

One of the most important activities of The Jewish Legal Heritage Society is the sponsorship and organizing of international gatherings of scholars in the field of Jewish law and values. These conferences are attended by academics and others from such diverse fields as law, philosophy, Jewish studies, theology, ecology, and history. The JLHS regards such gatherings of persons from Israel and around the world as an effective and important way to promote the knowledge of Jewish law and what it has to offer to modern society.

The JLHS believes that these conferences have contributed towards meeting today's needs, both within the legal community and within the society-at-large. These two fundamental values - justice and law - continue to be the focus of the educational programs and conferences of the JLHS.

Bible and Talmud and Their Contribution to Modern Legal Systems
The first Conference was held in Jerusalem in August 1983. This conference was organized with the itention of educating the international public on the Jewish sources of contemporary law.

This Conference dealt with a wide-range of topics. Lectures were given by lawyers, rabbis, academics and judges; lively discussions followed. Some of the topics dealt with include: The Kibbutz as a Legal Entity; Compromise; (The Church Fathers and Hebrew Political Thought;) The Influence of Religion Upon Law; The Ten Commandments in American Law; Maimonides' Views on Crime and Punishment; Coercion in Conjugal Relations; Self-Incrimination; and Medical Ethics.

In his opening remarks, the then Minister of Justice, Moshe Nissim, expressed the view that:

It is rewarding to see today in Jerusalem a gathering of those who have a common interest in widening their knowledge of the classical Jewish sources and in tying the rich heritage at our disposal even closer to modern legal dilemmas.

The proceedings of this international conference have been published by the JLHS in a book entitled: Jewish Law and Current Legal Problems.

The Second International Conference:
Maimonides as Codifer of Jewish Law
On the 850th anniversary of the birth of Maimonides, 1985 was declared “The Year of Maimonides.” On this occasion the Second International Conference on the Sources of Contemporary Law took place in August 1985 in Jerusalem in honor of the great scholar. This conference was attended by over 100 lawyers, judges, and scholars, representing a broad spectrum of faiths, who came from different countries to learn about the contribution of Maimonides to legal thought and to modern legal questions.

As the chairman of the Conference, Professor Nahum Rakover welcomed and addressed the gathering, which included the President of Israel, Chaim Herzog, the chief Rabbi of Jerusalem R. Shalom Messas, and a delegation from UNESCO, with the following words:

The Jewish people do not perpetuate the memory of their great sons in monuments of stone. They delve into the depth of their thinking: 'Their words are their memorial' (divreihem hem zichronam). This congress is meant to discuss, analyze and illuminate the figure of R. Moses ben Maimon who again and again has shed light on the problems that confront us to this very day.

Maimonides dealt in detail with the multi-faceted ways in which the Jewish people relate to justice and law. It was the aim of this Second International Conference to study his teachings in relation to contemporary legal and social problems.

This Conference dealt with a wide-range of topics in which Maimonides has been influential, including: The Codificatory Method and Jewish Legal Theory; Biblical Foundation of Jewish Law; Meta-Ethics in the Theory of Morals of Maimonides; Political and Legal Philosophy in the Guide for the Perplexed; Criminal Responsibility and Mental Illness; Maimonides and American Case Law; and the Comparative Study of Gratian and Maimonides.

The proceedings of this international conference have been published by the JLHS in a book entitled: Maimonides as Codifer of Jewish Law.

During “The Year of Maimonides” numerous lectures were given throughout Israel under the auspices of the JLHS, and a book was published with the title Maimonides and the Law in Israel (in Hebrew).

The Third International Conference:
Jerusalem — City of Law and Justice
This Conference, held in Jerusalem July 8 - 12, 1996, took place at the time when Jerusalem was celebrating her three thousandth year as the spiritual, historical, and cultural capital of the Jewish people.

Jewish law, the foundations of which are rooted in the Bible, has served as a source of inspiration for the world's lawmakers of past and present alike.

The aim of this Third International Conference on the Sources of Contemporary Law was to underscore the themes of law and justice and their special link to the values and ideals that Jerusalem symbolizes. The Conference gathered together lawyers, judges, rabbis, theologians, law professors and scholars from varying fields to reflect upon the contribution of those values to a wide range of topics from human rights and constitutional law, to environmental conservation and medical ethics. The influence of biblical values in general upon various legal cultures and systems were also a prominent part of the Conference.

His Excellency President Ezer Weizman was invited and other prominent leaders of Israeli society was in attendance additionally contributing to this important Conference.

This Conference covered the broad range of fields where Jewish law has been influential. Scholars presented lectures on the following topics:

The Supremacy of Law: Fundamental Rights and Freedoms; Dignity of Man; Equality; Liberty; Peace as an Overriding Value; Israel as a Jewish and Democratic State; The Rule of Law; Noahide Duty to Establish a Legal System; Courts and the Role of Judges; Religion and State; Jewish Law and Democracy; Freedom of Speech and Expression; Privacy and Personal Integrity; Role of the Judge in Conducting the Trial and the Power to Compel Compromise; Peaceful Settlement of Disputes; Religious Tolerance and Diversity; Patient's Rights; “Ten [Environmental] Regulations for Jerusalem;” Jewish Values in Environmental Conservation; Tobacco Use and Exposure to Health Risks; Man's Right to Exploit Natural Resources.
